The 2026 GSCS Reading Bowl took place on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the Griffin Region College and Career Academy, featuring nearly 60 students from eight different elementary schools. The annual event included seven rounds where student competitors answered questions based on books they had read. Crescent Elementary emerged as the winner, securing first place. Futral Road Elementary followed closely in second place, and Cowan Road Elementary completed the top three, taking home the third-place trophy. The other schools that participated were Anne Street, Beaverbrook, Jackson Road, Moreland Road and Orrs Elementary. After the competition, participants enjoyed a pizza lunch, generously provided by Partner in Education Marcos Pizza. The event was made possible thanks to the support of the middle school media specialists, technicians and the staff at GRCCA.

Our classified staff are often the first to greet our students each morning and the last to wave goodbye each afternoon. They keep our schools and grounds safe and clean. They help students learn by supporting technology, providing meals and encouraging them. Our schools would not be the same without them. Join us in thanking all of them as we celebrate Classified Staff Appreciation Week!

Recently, students across our district submitted their original pieces for the annual Young Georgia Authors (YGA) Writing Competition. This competition fosters a love of writing, encourages the development of students’ craft and provides an opportunity to celebrate excellence in both the arts and academics. Please join us in congratulating the following scholars for their outstanding work! Their submissions will now advance to the RESA level of competition!
