Students in Mrs Stratton’s Kindergarten class recently studied the types of soil using magnifying glasses, so they could compare texture, color, and particle size.

Dear GSCS,
We have been working with local and state law enforcement since early this morning regarding rumors and social media posts. Their investigations have indicated that there is no credible threat in our community based on the information at this time. All schools are safe and operating per normal operating procedures. Parents should expect to see an increased law enforcement presence in and around schools out of an abundance of caution.
Thank you,

Here are some upcoming September dates and recognitions.

We are excited about our Grand Breakfast this Friday and look forward to celebrating our student's grand people! If you are planning to attend (or have visitors coming), please let the guests know to arrive at the following times if at all possible: Bus rider guests: arrive between 7 and 7:10; Car rider/walker guests: arrive at a time coinciding with your student's arrival time.
ALL visitors will enter the building through the front doors, sign in, and pick up a visitor sticker. If purchasing a visitor breakfast ($2.50), stop at the table in the hallway to purchase a ticket. PLEASE try to have the correct change. Breakfast tickets will NOT be sold in the cafeteria. These must be purchased in the front foyer.
Our instructional time begins at 7:45 am. Visitors will exit the building through the cafeteria doors while students move to classrooms. Visitors will not be visiting classrooms on this day.
We look forward to seeing you on Friday. Thanks!

Dear GSCS,
In light of the recent tragedy at Apalachee High School, our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected. Locally, we want to assure everyone that support is readily available for any student or staff member who needs to talk through their feelings as they relate to today's school shooting. As such, Griffin-Spalding Schools' social workers, mental health clinicians, and school counselors will be on hand tomorrow to provide guidance and comfort. Additionally, a counselor from our Employee Assistance Program will be available to offer support to any employee(s) who needs support. More than ever, we remain diligent in our efforts to maintain safe and supportive learning environments for our students and employees. However we can, as best we can, WE will get through this challenging time together.
Be kind. Be well. Take good care.
Keith L. Simmons. Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
Griffin-Spalding County

After lessons about safety and how to cut, Mrs. K. Smith's Kindergarten class practiced cutting. #ColtsCan #KinderKidsCutting

After carefully learning rules for using scissors and cutting, Mrs. Stratton's kindergarten class practiced using scissors. #ColtsCan #KinderKidsCutting

Ms. McDevitt's students enjoyed working with partners to find numbers to fit each problem based on place value. They were also challenged to find multiple answers to each problem when they finished. Dr. Harvil was impressed by their discussions and reasoning as they worked to explain and justify their answers. #ColtsCan #Math #4thGrade

Ms. Boykin's PreK class loves working in centers. They are doing a great job learning to work together and sharing.

In the science lab, Ms. Mann worked with Ms. Allen's fourth grade students to examine their results from their experiment, discuss the results with their group, and record their findings in their science journals. #ColtsCan #StudentScientists #EngineeringProcess
